Introduction to Table Loom Weaving
This 2 1/2 hour workshop is the ideal way to try weaving on an 8 shaft Ashford table top loom. No experience necessary - this is suitable for complete beginners!
The looms will already be threaded up with a lovely soft neutral lambswool, giving you the chance to experiment with a variety of weft yarns and weaving patterns. You can bring photographs/ objects to inspire your weaving or simply trial a range of colours, patterns and textures. You will make a piece of fabric that you can take a way to sew in to a lovely memory of your time on Scilly, it can be turned in to a wall hanging or you can pop it in a frame - it's up to you!

About your tutor: Emily has been living on the Isles of Scilly for nearly 4 years. She graduated with a degree in woven textiles from Manchester School of Art in 2014 and became a Princes Trust supported business in 2017. Emily’s own weaving combines the colours of Scilly with traditional patterning. She looks forward to welcoming you in to Phoenix Studios and teaching you the art of hand weaving.
What’s included: A dedicated workshop space at Phoenix Studios, 2:1 tuition, your own pre-threaded 8 shaft table loom for the duration of the workshop, all yarns and other tools needed. Any fabric you weave is yours to take home.
What to expect: An introduction to the looms, yarns, patterns and weaving techniques followed by time for you to experiment weaving on the looms. Weaving is a slow, but extremely satisfying process. Don’t expect to see quick results, but over the course of the workshop, you will see your fabric grow! At the end of your workshop you will have produced your very own completely unique piece of handwoven fabric. Maximum 2 people per workshop.
What to bring: Just yourself! If you’d like to bring a photo or object to work from, please do. If you need glasses for close up work, bring these too!
Where to go: The workshop will take place at Phoenix Craft Studios on St Mary’s. Please note that the workshop space is upstairs.
Who is it for: This is an adults only workshop as it can be quite fiddly.
